This is a song about hopelessness, about the struggle to keep trying in a world facing constant existential threats. There are days where it feels truly insane to give the energy I have to writing and recording these silly little songs. Who the hell cares if I sang this well, the world is heating up at an accelerating rate and by the time my kid is my age civilization as we know it may have collapsed.

But the thing is, people do care. We need each other and we need art and music and we need love to keep going.

In the last chorus, the lyrics shift from a self centered why should I keep trying to how do you keep trying. There are so many people in this world who haven't given up, and are still fighting, even though their situation is immensely more immediately impossible than mine. If they haven't given up, how dare I stop fighting for them? I'm constantly inspired to keep trying by people around me. Friends, family, people I've never met in person but whose actions have trickled through the world and impacted me.

We keep trying for each other. We keep fighting for each other. The situation is only truly hopeless when the last of us gives up hope.

Keep hoping, loving and trying for each other.
